Company Profile
Ballarpur Industries Limited (BILT) is part of the USD 3 B Avantha Group and is the undisputed leader of the paper industry. It is Asia's largest manufacturer and exporter of paper, with a strong presence in all segments of the usage spectrum, including writing, printing, industrial and specialty papers. BILT has a diversified production infrastructure with six manufacturing units spread across India and one in Malaysia.
Business Challenge
With different legacy business systems controlling each manufacturing facility, BILT experienced process and quality control issues. Global visibility to business operations and financial results were not timely and changes in accounting standards (IFRS) and tax compliance were not addressed. BILT needed a solution for rapid re-engineering of their business process for Oracle EBS R12, quick integration of enterprise applications, and easy data standardization. BILT was using the following modules in Oracle EBS 11.5.7: Financials, SCM, Process Manufacturing and India Localization. They also use other systems like Ariba for Procurement, Oracle Retek Retail, Oracle Smartshop, Focus, Legacy Payroll and Optivision. They evaluated possible implementation partners for re-implementing Oracle EBS R12 and interface EBS R12 with Ariba, Oracle Retek and Optivision (Manufacturing Execution System MES). Chain-Sys was chosen as the preferred vendor for the project as we met their global expectations and possessed the necessary Project Management Experience, Tenacious Consultants and appLOAD™ Suite for Data Management. Earlier BILT used point to point PL-SQL interfaces to facilitate data communicate between external systems and Oracle EBS 11.5.7. This needed extensive maintenance. Release 11 of EBS also did not provide the OPM (Oracle Process Manufacturing) integration with Oracle Inventory.
Chain-Sys provided BILT with a strong OPM domain expertise, specialized tools and proven Oracle Business Accelerator (OBA) methodologies to deliver Oracle EBS R12 within nine (9) months.
Chain-Sys successfully developed complex customizations (90+) to re-engineer their business needs and bring operational efficiency.
With the appLOAD Suite, all master, transactional and configuration/setup, data totaling 1 terabyte, was migrated during the CRP and at go-live.
Synchronous and batched Integration with enterprise applications was performed using the appINTERFACE product and resulted in a new environment with operational efficiencies and a flexible system architecture platform for their future growth and expansion.
Chain-Sys formed a strong Triangle of Success comprising Top notch Implementation Team, Project Management Team and appLOAD™ Productivity Suite. Chain-Sys deployed a hybrid implementation methodology combining both OBA and AIM methodologies for this project. The initial instance configuration was done using OBA and all documentations made using AIM standards. Detailed documentation was provided to satisfy the project audit requirements. Chain-Sys successfully performed two CRP's and a UAT. Chain-Sys was involved in over 90 complex customizations (Forms, OAF Pages, Workflow, PL-SQL, XML Reports, Apex etc.).
The cutover happened on 31st of March and gone live on 08-Apr-2011. To understand the magnitude of the implementation, the following statistics will help.

Result
It took nine months to go live. The Chain-Sys methodology used in this project enabled BILT to successfully have an R12 system with their processes 100% mapped. Their R12 system is functioning without any system issues. All the BILT users were effectively trained to use the R12 system more efficiently. BILT, one of the largest Oracle EBS users, now has successfully moved their ten year old 11i system implementation to R12. Over 1 TB of data was successfully migrated into R12 with NO PROGRAMMING EFFORT.
This was one of the most complex and diversified business processes brought to a single instance.
Truth from single source was achieved.
