|An Oracle EBS Case Study - SBT DATS|
Siemens Ltd. is the flagship of the Siemens Group in India. The Siemens Group in India is a leading provider of industry and infrastructure solutions in India with a business volume aggregating about Rs. 90 Billion. SBT DATS (Siemens Building Technologies Digital Alarm Technologies), a subsidiary of Siemens Ltd., focuses on Building Automation, Fire Safety, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning products), Integrated Security Solutions and Total Building Solutions and is the market leader in Building Technologies industry.
SBT DATS was formed in 1st October 2007 by the acquisition of 77% stake in iMetrex Technologies by Siemens Ltd. iMetrex Technologies was founded in the year 2005 by the merger of Europlex Technologies (Ireland) and DATS India Ltd. With the other organizations of SBT DATS already live on Oracle Apps (184.108.40.206), SBT DATS was focusing on to rollout Oracle Apps in Europlex Technologies so as to reap the entire benefit of ERP through standardization. Europlex Technologies had been using Cobra since then.
The project was kick-started on 29th June 2009. From experience our consultants were knowledgeable that for a project of this nature the following would be the key focus areas to meet the Go Live date.
- Freezing-up of the requirements at the start of the project and sticking to it;
- Effective management of the onsite-offshore customers (the end-users were at the Europlex Technologies, Ireland and the IT Team was at SBT DATS, Chennai);
- Gathering and Loading of the Master Data;
Our consultants visualized that Master Data gathering and loading would be a critical component for the planned Go Live as data had to be collected from Cobra and traversed through Europlex Team at Ireland and then to the implementation team at Chennai. Any corruption of data due to non-validation either at the end user stage or at the IT Team would cost dearly on the Go Live date. Chain-Sys banked heavily on the use of its own new generation data-interfacing tool for Oracle E-Business Suite R12/11i – appLoad (which is a part of the Business Process Automation suite of products from Chain-Sys) – for data loading.
AppLoad is an efficient and effective tool, with the in-built data validation checks and its user-friendliness filtered out the corrupt/non-validated data along with the relevant error messages in an excel output file. The same was circulated to the client and re-validated. With a dedicated appLoad Team available at the Chain-Sys office data migration was completed as planned.
SBT DATS had an internal commitment to Siemens Ltd. that Cobra would be phased out from Europlex Technologies and Oracle Apps would be rolled out across all the organizations of SBT DATS as per the compliance policy followed by Siemens globally. However the time frame agreed upon was very stringent. It was evident to the management of SBT DATS that it needed a cost–effective and a reliable partner to implement Oracle Apps given the tight deadline. Chain-Sys was called in to conduct a study to implement Oracle Apps in Europlex Technologies. Chain-Sys studied the requirements of the client and estimated that Europlex Technologies could go live with Oracle Apps in 50 days if planned and executed meticulously. This time-estimate proposed by Chain-Sys was what the kind SBT DATS was looking for in order to meet their internal commitment.
Our consultants and the IT Team of SBT DATS certified the system readiness for the Go Live of Europlex Technologies on 17th August 2009 – the 50th day from the project start date. Europlex Technologies went live on 19th August 2009 after clearance from the top management and the compliance team at Siemens.
Implementation of Oracle Apps at Europlex Technologies – a classic example for clinical precision planning and execution by Chain-Sys.
